Birds and exotic pets are unique animals requiring advanced knowledge in their structure, function and diseases for proper treatment. We recently opened our hospital, The Bird and Exotic Pet Wellness Center to provide quality care for these special pets- including birds, reptiles, ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs and other small pocket pets, amphibians, fish and exotic hoof stock. For all of these special animals, yearly veterinary exams tailored for their needs should be performed.

Our doctors, Dr. Susan Orosz and Dr. Tim Reichard have been working with birds and exotics for over 22 years exclusively. “Dr. O” is board certified in avian medicine and has taught vet students and residents at The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine for 14 years. “Dr. Tim” interned at the San Diego Zoo and then was the Chief veterinarian at the Toledo Zoo for 23 years.

In addition to our long experience, we strive to stay on the cutting edge with these unique animals both by giving and attending presentations at continuing education conferences. We regularly attend special conferences like the AAV (Association of Avian Veterinarians), AAZV (American Association of Zoo Veterinarians),  AAWV (American Association of Wildlife Veterinarians), and ARAV(Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians) while maintaining memberships in these and other related groups. Both Drs. Orosz and Reichard are involved in research projects and write scientific and informative papers in their subject areas. Both speak regularly at national and international veterinary conferences, sharing their expertise with other veterinarians. Dr. Orosz has published two avian textbooks and multiple chapters in others.
